Title Research: All the bright places
All the bright places is a 2020 teen romance film. This film is unique because of it's incorporation with mental health and how it effects relationships.
What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
The entertainment companies logo is the first to go up. Then the name of the movie. This opening is not like the others I have seen since it doesn't show any names of actors or the production team.
What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?
A clip of a low camera angle of a person running and continues at different angles of the man. Followed by a pov shot of him looking at a girl standing on a bridge looking down. He then runs up to her, they seem to speak more with their eyes than anything being that there is really just cutaway scenes of them looking at each other and then doing actions based off of that.
What connotations do these images carry?
It tells the audience that the girl has mental health issues and is contemplating suicide and the man has some sympathy towards her although he didn't realize who she was at first. After the realization he becomes more interested in helping her. It also shows how she cares about others being that she tells him to stop when she feels like he will hurt himself.
How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
This film is unlike others and starts the movie with more of a sympathy feeling. The opening makes the audience realize how some humans naturally feel the need to step in and help when they see another in distress.
What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to it's target audience?
They play softer happy music at the beginning, not as upbeat as most romance movies. They introduce the two main characters right away. Based off of representation the audience can tell right away that it would be a friends/enemies to lovers romance movie.
How has technology been used effectively?
The camera angles used, such as the what I believe was a tracking shot at the beginning was a great shot. The cutaway was super good and exactly the same each time. Also the pov shot and the non-diegetic sound of the chirps in the background was super natural.
