Title research: My girl

My girl is the 1991 romance film that I found on Netflix. I think that this is very interesting choice when it comes to romance movies because it is about very young children.

What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

First the production companies logo comes up followed by a blank black screen that has the producers names. Then the name of the the female lead role on a blank page. The screen goes blank after a few scenes and shows the movie title.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?

The first clip is of one of the main characters. It then shows her kitchen and her father. She goes outside it shows the front door and then when she goes back inside more of the house.

What connotations do these images carry?

They show where the main character is and where she will most likely be since she is young and can not go out much. It also brings in the characters quickly. Unlike many other movies where more characters develop later on in the film.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The opening does not give me that feeling that it's a romance movie. It just seems like a story about a little girl in the opening and there could've been something more to make the genre more obvious.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to it's target audience?

The music started right away, it was a soft song that catches the attention of many audiences.

How has technology been used effectively?

Because more recent live actions movie have improved over the years, I believe tech from today's generation could have been great on this movie. I do like the close up on the little girl that they had at the very beginning while she was breaking the forth wall. This is a nice way to start off a movie as if someone is right there having a conversation with you instead of jumping right in.
